Pertussis is Epidemic in CaliforniaThe California Department of Public Health has declared an epidemic of Whooping Cough (Pertussis) in California. Whooping cough is a bacterial infection that causes coughing fits so bad that it is hard to breathe.

In Santa Clara County we have had 111 of cases reported from January 1, 2010 to August 3, 2010. In 2009, our county had a total of 25 cases reported during the whole year.

Latest Health Alerts for Medical Providers

Healthcare providers that would like to be added to the Health Alert notification system can send an email to HealthOfficer@hhs.sccgov.org and include:

  • name;
  • specialty;
  • address;
  • email address;
  • telephone number;
  • fax number.
