Santa Clara County Community’s Health on Tobacco Report Card
A joint project between the Public Health Department, Tobacco Free Coalition of Santa Clara County and Community Advocate Teens of Today
Goal: Counter pro-tobacco influences in the community and prevent youth from getting access to tobacco (thus preventing possible addiction to tobacco).

Activities:
· Collect data and evaluate each city’s level of compliance with tobacco control laws; how much tobacco control enforcement is being conducted; strength of tobacco control policies in city municipal code
· Determine each city’s grade in relation to the data collected
· Report findings to each City Mayor, City Council Members, Police Chief, City Administration Staff
· Educate tobacco retailers on State and local tobacco control policies; provide mandated signage to each merchant
· Partner with cities to increase enforcement efforts; provide technical assistance; any necessary training/support
· Release the Report Card findings in a press release to share the findings with the community. Click here for the 2008 Community’s Health on Tobacco Report Card media release.
· Encourage and advocate for stronger tobacco control policies (ex. More advertising restrictions, tobacco retail licensing).
