Information on Secondhand Smoke

Secondhand smoke is the smoke exhaled from the lungs of smokers. It is involuntarily inhaled by nonsmokers, lingers in the air hours after cigarettes have been extinguished and can cause or exacerbate a wide range of adverse health effects, including cancer, respiratory infections, and asthma1
It’s the LAW…Smoking is prohibited in enclosed indoor workplaces, restaurants, bars, and all City of San Jose parks.

To report secondhand smoke violations, please call your local Secondhand Smoke Helpline at (408) 999-0500.

What is TPEP doing?

Smoke Free Multi Unit Housing:
TPEP believes in protecting non-smokers, especially children from the harmful effects of secondhand smoke. Each year 54, 000 Americans die from diseases caused by secondhand smoke exposure. The Smoke Free Multi Unit Housing project aims to educate owners, property managers, and tenants of multi unit housing complexes in Santa Clara County on the hazards of secondhand smoke and encourages them to adopt a voluntary smoke free policy at their multi unit housing complexes.
